Ricky Martin helps create the next Latino boy band

It seems as if Simon Cowell’s dream to create the ultimate Latino boy band is a go. And what better candidate to join his project than Ricky Martin –who embarked his successful trajectory as a pre-teen in the Puerto Rican band Menudo.
It was announced last year that Syco Entertainment, a global joint venture between Cowell and Sony Music Entertainment, is partnering with Univision to search for the next Latino music group in a new television show called La Banda.

The latest on this forthcoming show is the participation of global sensation Ricky Martin, who was announced as the executive producer and the first judge of the show.
“I’m extremely enthusiastic for forming part of this innovative program next to Simon Cowell,” Martin expressed in a statement. “Our community needs musical projects that allow talents to showcase themselves,” Martin said, noting that this is the right timing for a show like “La Banda.”
“There’s a lot of talent to discover and I’m sure that we will find the next musical phenomenon with the help of not only the judges but also the fans,” he said.
Cowell is also thrilled to have Martin on his venture, saying that in order to find a global band, he needed a global sensation to serve as a judge. “I know Ricky, and he has the same passion as me for the show,” he expressed. “I know he’ll do a great job.”
Think One Direction but with a Hispanic flair.

The reality competition program will hunt for contestants representing the United States, Mexico, Central America, South America, the Caribbean and Puerto Rico, competing for a record contract with Syco Music and Sony Music Latin.
La Banda is set to debut in 2015 on the Univision Network.
