As Miami resident Ernesto Hernandez was laid to rest Wednesday morning, his grieving family is in search of an answer to the tragedy that took the young man’s life involving local radio host DJ Laz and Pitbull’s vodka brand Voli Spirits in Miami this week.
Following the fatal incident, family and loved ones want an answer.
At the present time we are in mourning, family spokesperson Michael Gonzalez told CBS 4. We havent delved into that aspect of what happened.

Hernandez’s cause of death is listed as “multiple chop wounds” by the medical examiner after he was reportedly in the water, trying to push off DJ Laz’s boat after it got stuck on a sandbar on May 4th.

Lazaro Mendez (DJ Laz) was the man behind the wheel of the boat that was promoting Pitbulls vodka brand. Mendez has entertained South Floridians for decades.
Around 7 p.m. on Sunday May 4th, the boat that DJ Laz was steering got stuck on the Nixon sandbar off Key Biscayne, Fla.
Several people on the scene began to push the boat.
Unfortunately, Ernesto Hernandez, 23, who was assisting, was fatally struck by the boats spinning propellers, according to authorities.
The victim’s family member said it was normal for him to always lend a helping hand because he had a giving heart.
DJ Laz shared his distraught feelings on social media following the mishap on Monday May 5th and stated that he is cooperating with the investigation. However as of Wednesday both of his verified Twitter and Facebook accounts were shut down without explanation.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officer Jorge Pino announced Monday that investigators were going to to look at whether alcohol played a role, and if there will be press charges against the operator of the vessel.
Pino says investigators observed no blood shot eyes, slurred speech or unsteady movement to suggest DJ Laz was impaired.
Still, they called state attorney who said they couldnt compel a blood or breath test without probable cause. They still asked him to give a voluntary breathalyzer and he refused, reports CBS 4.
I really dont have a comment about that, Gonzalez reacted to the statement. Thats regulatory and a question of law.
