I am counting down the days for the new year to chime in, because with it comes a new film based on the true story of Mexico’s most controversial pop-rock icon, Gloria Trevi.
Coming from someone whose favorite song as a child was “Pelo Suelto,” this is a big deal. I know that every person who rocked out to her jams in the late eighties and nineties can back me up. I also lived through her–literally–hair raising scandals, musical breakthroughs and successes, as well as her comeback.

“Gloria,” which has been acquired by Picturehouse for its release in the U.S., is a bold and compelling musical drama told through the lens of the provocative, socio-politically charged music that made Trevi famous.

Gloria Trevis meteoric rise to stardom and astounding downfall is vividly portrayed in this riveting film about love, fame and betrayal, says Picturehouse CEO Bob Berney.
The film traces back to the beginning of Trevi’s trajectory in the eighties and nineties and her controversial and toxic bond with her manager and then husband Sergio Andrade, telling the true story of their destructive relationship and Andrade’s abusive sexual behavior and all its consequences.
It also chronicles Trevi’s astounding fall from grace in 2000 when she was accused of running a sex cult and thrown in jail to her triumphant acquittal and release in 2004.
The biopic was directed by first-timer Christian Keller, who chased down the Trevis life rights and has been developing her story since 2005.
Actress Sofia Espinosa takes the role of the controversial Gloria Trevi; whereas, Marco Perez delivers the powerful role of Sergio Andrade.
“Gloria” has been acquired by Universal Pictures International for an early 2015 release in Mexico and Latin America.

The film is also expected to make its debut in the U.S. in the first quarter of 2015 via Picturehouse.
Often referred to as the Mexican Madonna and called the Supreme Diva of Mexican Pop by VH1, Trevi has sold more than 20 million records and is currently again on top of all the charts.
