Spicy mango salsa
This salsa tastes great as a topping for vegetable salad. You can even eat it on its own.
Salsa it’s spicy and adds zing to chips, tortillas, burritos, tacos, and even to meals of chicken, fish, or beef. Traditional tomato salsa is a good choice, but mixing things up with ingredients you’ve never before thought to add takes mealtime to a whole new level. Try spicy mango salsa.
Mango pairs well with many of the classic items you mix into salsa but gives it a unexpected sweet undertone. Mango can also help take the heat level down a notch if your peppers turn out to be a bit too spicy for your taste. A ripe and tender mango is your best bet for the most flavorful bowl of spicy mango salsa.
Choose one that is gives slightly to pressure on the skin. Look for a mango that is dark green to red and orange. Most mangoes are a combination of all three colors on the outside. When you pick the mango up, you want it to feel slightly heavy for its size. The mango should have a fruity smell.
If you can’t find a ripe mango, place an unripe one in a paper bag, which speeds the ripening process. Once ripe, store mangoes in the refrigerator until ready to use. Spicy mango salsa is easy to make. To start, cut the flesh of a mango away from the pit, being careful not to get your knife stuck in the large pit. Discard the pit. Use a sharp knife to peel the mango skin away from the flesh.
Dice the mango into small pieces and place into a medium-sized bowl. Next, dice a jalapeno, about half of a red onion, a handful of cilantro, and one avocado. Gently mix the spicy mango salsa with a large spoon. Drizzle the mixture with the juice of one lime and stir again. Season to taste with cracked black pepper.
Cover and chill the salsa, which allows the flavors to meld. Spicy mango salsa is fantastic served with corn chips, but the possibilities go far beyond that. Top flank steak tacos with the mixture, or add it to bean burritos before rolling them up.
