Singer Kylie Minogue was diagnosed with cancer in 2005, and since then she has made it a point to be an advocate for those in similar situations. Now, the Australian beauty has released a new song, “Crystallized,” as part of the One Note Against Cancer campaign.

Kylie Tweeted on May 26: “Here’s my new video for #Crystallize just for you Lovers! If you donated to #OneNoteAgainstCancer, you’re part of it!”

The 46-year-old singer is passionate about her almost decade-long battle with cancer though she recently revealed to OK! Magazine she was doubtful that children might still be a possibility for her one day.

“I’m still hopeful to have a family,” she said. ”But being an older woman I’m realistic, you have to think about it, you can’t say you will or you won’t because ultimately it isn’t up to you. If I don’t have children I will at least be able to invest that love in my nephews.”

Minogue added that going through cancer leaves a lot of unknowns like whether or not you can have children, and just because you are a cancer survivor doesn’t mean the condition has gone away and you never have to deal with it again. Breast cancer like Kylie’s affects millions of women, but each woman’s story is different, said the singer. For her, the reality of never having children was something she didn’t expect to have to deal with when originally diagnosed.

“I’m fortunate I’m here to tell the story,” she told Metro back in 2012. “I have reminders of it (cancer)every day so it definitely affects my life in a small part, so you just have to adapt and do things slightly differently… just deal with it and move on.”

According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), breast cancer is the most common cancer found among women in the United States, with more than 230,000 cases diagnosed annually. Of those, only approximately 60,000 are caught in the very early stages, and breast cancer claims the lives of 40,000 women each year.

Kylie Minogue represents a growing portion of younger women who are being diagnosed with breast cancer; however, the mortality rate for such cases is significantly improving with technology.

“Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, exceeded only by lung cancer,” states the ACS. “The chance that breast cancer will be responsible for a woman’s death is about 1 in 36 (about 3%). Death rates from breast cancer have been declining since about 1989, with larger decreases in women younger than 50. These decreases are believed to be the result of earlier detection through screening and increased awareness, as well as improved treatment.”

At this time there are almost 3 million women living with breast cancer in the country, with an estimated 1 in 8 women projected to be diagnosed with the condition during their lives.

Minogue hopes that her partnership with the One Note Against Cancer campaign will help spread awareness about this condition. The more educated women are about their risk factors and the treatment options for breast cancer, the more improvements will be seen in mortality and treatment rates in the future.
