Argentina is a huge country where almost all the ecosystems can be found. From deserts to perpetual ice.

At this point we shall take a look at some of the best ski resorts you can enjoy at their best from June till September, when the snow falls all over the Andes Mountain Chain, from the central province of Mendoza to Tierra del Fuego, at the most southern end of the world.

1. Cerro Catedral

This is the most famous and modern of all South America’s Ski Resorts.

It’s located in the Patagonia province of Rio Negro – 19 kilometers from the city of Bariloche. It has 1,200 acres of forests, ravines which are ideal for skiing off-piste slopes.

Obstacles were added to the terrain so you can enjoy sledging and obstacle track skiing. There is also a nursery, and a recreational park for children aged 3 to 11 years old. To add to the amenities there are also snowmobiles, fourtrax, trails: one track for Nordic skiing and another for hiking with snowshoes.

The resort is also equipped with snow making machines, 40 lifts, 600 skiable acres, 19 eateries and 53 tracks (120 km) suitable for different skiing skill levels.

The resort has the advantage of being very close to the Nahuel Huapi Lake, an ideal place for winter tourism. You can get there by plane -almost 2 hours to cover the 1,650 kilometers it takes from Buenos Aires.

2. Cerro Castor

Located to the South of the continent, in Tierra del Fuego. It has 29 tracks and includes sports like snow polo, rugby and golf.

The skiable area is of 650 and has 32 km of tracks. One of the most valued aspects of Cerro Castor by skiers is the quality of its snow, which is not only great but also very soft; white powder that never becomes ice thanks to the geographical peculiarities of the place, which has to do with the low altitudes close to the South Pole.

You can get there in about 3 hours and a half by plane from Buenos Aires, landing at Ushuaia airport.

3.  Los Penitentes

Near the border between Chile and Argentina, in the Cordillera of the Andes, and only 180 km away from Mendoza City, stands the small winter resort of Los Penitentes.

It has 25 tracks of downhill skiing for different skill levels and it’s cheaper than the other resorts.

The rental of equipment is complemented by tables, equipment repair and maintenance.

The accommodations offered range from very economical hostels with shared rooms, to shelters and apartments for families or comfortable inns. A grand attraction of this winter resort is its proximity to the cities of Mendoza, in Argentina and the capital city of Chile, Santiago.

You must first get to the distant city of Mendoza, 1,090 kilometers from Buenos Aires and take a one hour and half flight to get there.

4. Las Leñas

This is one of the most important winter resorts in Argentina. It lies on the Southern end of the city of Mendoza, about 1,200 kilometers from Buenos Aires, and has become the center of outdoor activities year round. Its base is located 2,240 meters above the sea level and its summit is at 3,430 yards.

It has 30 tracks, some for snowboarding. You can reach it in about an hour and a half by plane landing at Malargue airport.

5. Chapelco

Chapelco Ski Resort has 25 snow tracks and is located in an amazing natural beauty spot in the province of Neuquén. It’s the closest ski and snowboarding resort in San Martín de los Andes (at 20 km) and offers an array of services that you can sign up on online, such as lift passes, classes, and equipment rental, with all the pricing options, days and seasons.

The program of events includes the Chapelco Tetrathlon – a demanding race that combines skiing, mountain biking, kayaking and running- the National Mountain Festival, the White Party, the South American ski circuit and the Argentina Polo Snow Cup among others.

It takes a 2 hours flight from Buenos Aires to arrive at San Martín de los Andes airport.
