Elian Gonzales attended an exhibition commemorating the history and the 88th birthday of former Cuban Leader Fidel Castro in Havana, Cuba; he once again used the opportunity to extol the ailing Cuban leader.

Gonzales took time to expressed his admiration for the dictator on a recent interview with Telemundo.

“Every meeting with him was a lesson,” Elian said about Fidel Castro, “I wish him happiness because that’s what he gave to me, happiness.”

The photo exhibit, titled “Fidel is Fidel,” is a collection of images of Castro’s political career taken by Roberto Chile,  a photographer who spent more than 10 years documenting Fidel’s presidency.

“I don’t think there is even one of Fidel’s adversaries who has the praise and the support of so many people around the world. He has enemies of course, but many more friends,” Chile told reporters at the exhibit.

Castro retired for good in 2008 following a near-fatal illness, ceding power to his younger brother and designated successor, Raul, who turned 83 in June, even though some experts claim Castro still advises from the back seat.

Gonzalez has publicly professed his admiration and love for Castro, calling him a ‘father’ and a ‘God.’

“Fidel Castro for me is like a father,” Gonzalez said last year. “I don’t profess to have any religion but if I did my God would be Fidel Castro. He is like a ship that knew to take his crew on the right path.”

Elian Gonzalez, was a young Cuban boy when he survived a perilous raft journey that killed his mother as they tried fleeing the island to migrate to the United States. Since then Gonzalez became a symbol of troubled relations between the United States and Cuba.
