Don Omar arrested for allegedly assaulting girlfriend

Police in Puerto Rico arrested reggaetton star Don Omar Wednesday on suspicion of domestic violence.

The artist, also known as William Omar Landron Rivera, was taken into police custody at his home in Vega Alta on the northern coast on suspicion of threatening his 26-year old girlfriend, according to a report by the Associated Press.

Officials in Puerto Rico say this is not the first time Don Omar is accused of violent behavior, and detectives are investigating a possible pattern of abuse by him against the victim.

Lt. Aimee Alvarado told Radio Isla 1320 that the investigation is “ongoing and that officers are following up” on what she said were previous reports of domestic violence.

Don Omar is one of the most famous “reggaetoneros” in the industry. He’s won 10 awards last year at the Billboard Latin Music Awards and has also appeared in several movies, including “Fast & Furious” in 2009.
