A week after reggaetton star Don Omar was arrested and charged with four counts of domestic violence in Puerto Rico, his 26-year-old girlfriend, who is the alleged victim, has been found after going missing.

Rebeca Lopez called police on Don Omar last week after she was allegedly assaulted by the musician; the Puerto Rican newspaper “Primera Hora” later reported that a missing persons report was filed for her. However, she’s apparently safe and sound in Washington after she called her mother to tell her she had gotten on a flight to the U.S.

Univision reports that Lopez reportedly left the island for a respite from all the controversy; hours before her family reported her missing, she posted an open letter forgiving Don Omar for the alleged beating on her Facebook page.

Translated to English it reads: “I feel too much pressure, and I can’t bear what this has turned into. At least I can’t allow that any harm be done to the person I love, and much less interfere with his career. We all make mistakes; I only have forgiveness inside of me.

“At this moment, where it’s clear to me that my emotional wellbeing is greatly affected, I’d like to do the responsible thing with myself and take time to recover and find myself, away from everyone and everything.”

Last week Don Omar was arrested on two counts of abuse, two counts of threatening a person and two counts of weapons violations charges. He was arrested in the wee hours of Wednesday, September 17th in the neighborhood of Vega Alta. He was released from jail on $600,000 and has a court appearance scheduled for Sept. 29.

Dom Omar himself has shown some love back at his girlfriend, stating the following on his Twitter page: “I hold no grudges in my heart, forgiveness is the basic element for love. We will see each other again and a hug will seal this lamentable incident.”

No existe rencor en el corazón, el perdón es elemento básico para el amor. Nos volveremos a ver y un abrazo sellará este suceso lamentable.

Is it just a case of a battered woman justifying domestic violence, or just a misunderstanding between a couple that needed to be fixed?

Several media outlets report that she’s ready to have charges dropped against Don Omar.
