Whether you are a fan of Calle 13’s music or not, it’s pretty obvious that the Puerto Rican duo is badass. Their nonchalant attitude at expressing themselves explains their undeniable success, which is reflected in the multiple Grammys and Latin Grammys they own –21 golden gramophones to be exact.
It also explains why their creativity and wit has made them the 2014 Latin Grammy artist with most nominations for the impeccable work found in their latest album “Multi_Viral.”

One out of the nine nods they have include “Record of the Year” with their song “Respira el Momento.” A track that with a lot of hard work has summed up the meaning of life in nearly six minutes.
“[Respira el Momento] is the first track we began working on and the last track we finished,” Eduardo Cabra (Visitante Calle 13) expressed in a video posted on their official YouTube account.
He added: “In my case, lots of things were running through my mind…and the most important thing was my relationship with music…”
The track, which is competing with nine other songs in the 15th annual Latin Grammys, took almost a year to complete.
“It was a long process. We would work on the song, leave it and then go back to it,” Rene Perez (Residente Calle 13) said.
“I wanted to write about life, I didn’t care if the song made it to the radios or if people like it,” he said. “I wanted to document something that when people heard it they can say ‘this is life’.”
Residente admitted that giving birth to a song about la vida was very complicated, which included intense research. “I began grabbing statistics on what humans do: how much we walk, how much we breathe, how much we dream and how many people are born and how many people die every day.”
“And that’s what we wanted…for it to be something epic about life…And that’s how the song came out. I wanted to find the music that would fit perfectly with what I was saying, and what I was going to say,” Residente said.
“Respirar el Momento” is up for Record of the Year against “Donde Esta el Amor” (Pablo Alboran ft. Jesse & Joy, “Cambio de Piel” (Marc Anthony), “Decidiste Dejarme” (Camila), “Universos Paralelos” (Jorge Drexler ft. Ana Tijoux), “Llegaste Tu” (Luis Fonsi ft. Juan Luis Guerra), “Bailando” (Enrique Iglesias ft. Descemer Bueno & Gente de Zona), “Darte un Beso” (Prince Royce), “Cuando Nos Volvamos a Encontrar” (Carlos Vives ft. Marc Anthony), “El Mar de Sus Ojos” (Carlos Vives ft. ChocQuibTown).
