Have Cristiano Ronaldo and girlfriend Irina Shayk split?

Rumors are circulating that Portuguese soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo and his supermodel girlfriend Irina Shayk have split after four years together.

Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo first reported the news, but has not confirmed the split publicly.

The rumors began when Ronaldo was awarded the Ballon d’Or in Zurich on Monday for the second successive year in a row, third overall, yet his girlfriend was not in attendance as she was the previous year.

A year ago, the happy couple took to social media immediately after the award show, celebrating Ronaldo’s achievements with their fans. This time around, Irina sent no words of congratulations, no heartfelt messages. Instead, she is believed to have unfollowed the former Manchester United man on Twitter, according to the Daily Mail.

Another giveaway of their split was the fact that Ronaldo did not mention his supposed sweetheart in his acceptance speech, meaning rumors of their break up is rife. Irina’s absence this year was attributed to prior work engagements yet her Twitter and Instagram feeds have been filled with pictures of herself enjoying her beach vacation.

Their breakup may have been coming for some time due to the nature of their long distance relationship.

Shayk has not been content with being one of the world’s most in demand models, so she is set on making her acting debut with a starring role in Hercules, alongside Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

Her acting and modeling career are the most important things to her and she might have decided that Ronaldo was getting in the way of her career.

The split may also have something to do with Irina reportedly having a falling out with Ronaldo’s mother over the holiday break but neither Ronaldo nor Irina have publicly confirmed the split.
