What if instead, Michael Jackson was the King of Salsa?

What if instead of being known to mankind as the “King of Pop,” Michael Jackson was known as the “King of Salsa”? It sounds odd, but a group of salsa artists is up for the challenge.

Evidently, Jackson’s legacy lives on nearly six years after his death, and that’s why one Peruvian-American musician and composer decided to pay tribute to the late pop artist in the most sizzling way possible.

Inspired by Jackson’s massive hits, Tony Succar has created “UNITY: Tributo Latino a Michael Jackson,” a tribute album with 12 of MJ’s popular songs. But consider this an album like no other, as Succar has invited other Latin artists to bring back songs such as “Thriller” and “Billie Jean” but with a tropical twist.

“The common denominator in Michael Jackson’s music was love, the reality is unity,” said Succar in a statement. “I wanted the title to mean something, a marriage between American pop and Latin roots keeping the legacy of Michael Jackson alive.”

On this journey, the musician invited renowned artists such as Tito Nieves, Jon Secada, India and Obie Bermudez, among others. “I’m a huge fan. I had to do something about it,” Succar added.
