Spain was about to have its first bondage-themed hotel, but local village authorities werent too happy with the news. We guess the “Fifty Shades of Grey” fever hasn’t hit everybody equally.
The hotel was scheduled to open on Friday in the small Valencian village of Vilafranca, and it would have gained notoriety as Spains first BDSM (bondage, discipline, dominance, submission, sadism and masochism) hotel. How’s that for a vacation?

With the Fifty Shades of Grey phenomenon in full swing, I saw a business opportunity that hadnt been exploited yet in Spain, the savvy businessman behind the creative idea, who preferred to remain anonymous, told The Local.

The entrepreneur rented out Vilafrancas L’Om del Llosar hotel with plans to cater the roadside property to a niche market, announcing the launch on Facebook for August 1st.

According to “The Daily”: “Renaming it the Roissy Castle, in honor of the French chateau featured in classic erotic novel The Story of O, he told potential guests theyll ‘be able to enjoy games, flaunt themselves and share experiences with other visitors’ in the twenty hotel rooms and four dungeons, three of which are private.”
However, Vilafranca is a small town with only 2,500 inhabitants so only a few voices made a big noise.
The town council representatives argued that it is unsuitable to have an establishment of this nature in the village and so close to the chapel where dozens of people come every day to visit the villages patron saint.
Despite backlash from certain individuals, the bar and restaurant section of the establishment has been loved by other residents.
Our restaurant and bar have been full of villagers since we opened at the start of the summer. It wasnt until just a few days ago that one of Vilafrancas online dailies ran a piece on our plans to open the sadomasochist hotel and this huge uproar began, said the businessman.
Oscar Tena, Vilafrancas mayor, has already begun the legal procedure to block the launch on the basis that the businessman doesnt have the necessary paperwork to have a hotel and restaurant license.
