Elvis Crespo gets love on ‘House of Cards’ but none from Univision

After being vetoed from a show on Univision, where he was not permitted to perform his latest single, Elvis Crespo proudly stands strong with his fresh song “Tatuaje” featuring Bachata Heightz.

It was a roller coaster weekend for both Crespo and the bachata group, who were expected to perform on Univision’s reality beauty pageant “Nuestra Belleza Latina” Sunday night.

The artists with Caribbean blood were invited to perform their newest and catchy jam “Tatuaje,” a song from Crespo’s 2015  studio album with the same title out Tues., March 3rd.

Both the Puerto Rican merengue star and the Dominican group were ecstatic with their showcase on the popular TV show, announcing the news to their followers.

But it seems that at last minute, their performance was cancelled, causing a commotion on social media thereafter.

For those who haven’t heard “Tatuaje,” the song is a sensual bachata with very explicit lyrics –which leads us to think this is the reason it was vetoed.

However, the show offered Crespo to perform another one of his singles, to which he refused, standing strong with his new track featuring Bachata Heightz.

“Tonight I will not participate in ‘Nuestra Belleza Latina.’ The legal division from Univision vetoed my record ‘Tatuaje,’” he announced in Spanish on Facebook. “For respect to my music and the artists who accompany me in this song, Bachata Heightz, I did not accept to sing another single in ‘Nuestra Belleza.’ Crespo then signed off by calling out the network’s double moral standard, “they veto my music but transmit high sexual content telenovelas,” he stated before sending out his apologies to the audience and the candidates of the program.

Needless to say, the talented boys from Bachata Heightz travelled all the way from Dominican Republic for the show.

Following the mishap, Crespo talked to Puerto Rico’s radio station La Perrera de Salsoul on 99.1 FM, revealing that even though he’s upset, he’s very proud with other recent achievements.

“While they vetoed me on Univision, ‘House of Cards,’ the series that’s very popular with Kevin Spacey, closed their season with my music,” he said to the radio hosts.

Crespo, who’s been captivating the world since the ’90s with his merengue and tropical fusion beats, also noted that his music tends to break barriers.

“You have no idea of all the petitions we get for commercials and publicity,” he stated. “You need a filter with me, but when I work on a song, I make sure that it’s impacting. That’s why I have many years in this [industry]. You have to be creative.”
