Already out in theaters nationwide since Friday, the new science fiction film directed by Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium) tells the heartwarming and action-packed story of the robot Chappie.

The movie has a promising cast, composed of Hollywood stars Sharlo Copley (as the voice of Chappie), Dev Patel, Ninja, Yolandi Visser, Jose Pablo Cantillo, Sigourney Weaver, Hugh Jackman and a cameo by TV reporter Anderson Cooper.
We caught up with Latino actor Jose Pablo Cantillo, of Costa Rican descent, who gladly talked about his role in the film, among other things.
VOXXI: What can you tell me about your character Yankie?
JOSE PABLO CANTILLO: He teaches Chappie how to be a rebel/”rude boy”. He is the big brother who teaches Chappie all the things that older siblings are supposed to teach and parents want to avoid.
V: What’s an important lesson we can learn at the end of this movie?
JPC: With Chappie starting off as a child he absorbs everything that he see or is done to him. The message is for parents to really be deliberate with what you do and say around your children.
V: Convince me with three good reasons why I should check out this movie over the weekend?
JPC: (1) Hugh Jackman with a mullet. (2) A robot that has a sense of humor like Richard Prier but kicks ass like a ninja. (3) Because Jose Pablo Cantillo, a Latino represents America.

V: If you could build your ideal robot, what would be his name and what five qualities would he possess?
JPC: His name would be Chico named after my dog. He would be able to (1) surf and (2) fight sharks. (3) He would be an awesome salsa dancer, so he could teach me how to keep up with my wife. (4) He would be the ultimate chaperone for my daughter’s dates (he would pack metal). (5) He would be able to mimic my voice so he could do my interviews…j/k but really! Hahaha.
