Figueroa, an Emmy Award winner and TV host for the network, made a degrading comment during a segment of “El Gordo y la Flaca” early this week, stating that FLOTUS looked like an ape from the film “Planet of the Apes.”

The network made it clear that Figueroa’s action was “completely reprehensible and in no way reflect the values or opinions of Univision,” and as a result he was immediately dismissed.
Following the big news, the “Sal y Pimienta” host wrote a long open letter to Mrs. Obama, in which he offered his sincerest apologies.
VOXXI’s own Facebook page has been flooded with an overwhelming amount of comments on the matter, most of them criticizing Figueroa.
One person who spoke up regarding this issue was Myrka Dellanos, a journalist and colleague of Rodner Figueroa.
Dellanos released a video in Spanish and one in English, where she made it clear that though she’s worked with Figueroa for many years she’s not sure if he’s a racist or not.
In her video reaction she disclosed that it’s shameful to compare the First Lady to an ape and to laugh about it over and over.
“We are in a place in our country where racism, against anyone, should not be tolerated,” she said.

Dellanos also added that Latinos music lead by example and not use their power in media to hurt and degrade people.
