After making a playful remark where she referred to her fans as the “N word,” Chiquis Rivera is now asking them –and anyone offended– for forgiveness.

The incident occurred earlier this year, when the Mexica-American singer published a video on her social media accounts, expressing her joy for an award nomination.

“To all my b**ches out there, thank you so much, thank you for nominating me. You know, ya’ll my n***as,” she said, followed by a wave of laughter from her friends behind the camera.

Rivera was referring to her first-ever Premio Lo Nuestro nomination, where she was up against many songstresses including her late mother Jenni Rivera for Regional Mexican Female Artist of the Year.

Though at the event Chiquis lost to “La Diva de la Banda,” she accepted the award on her behalf and thanked everyone for keeping her mom’s legacy alive.

In an apology statement recently released by TMZ Live, Chiquis says sorry to her fans and anyone who got offended with her video celebration posted days before Premio Lo Nuestro.

“This is something that’s a huge deal, and I want to take full responsibility for it. I do want to say I was joking around, but even joking around I have a social responsibility and I want to apologize if I offended anyone. Where I come from, it’s a commonly used word, but it’s still not OK because even though my friends take it as a joke –actually one of my best friends is black, we joke around like that all the time. But, I do realize if I offended anybody, I want to apologize from the bottom of my heart that it’s not my intention at all. That’s why I want to take the time and talk to you guys, because I don’t want this to get out of hand or be misunderstood, more than anything,” she said in the video.
