Friday is the deadline for newly naturalized citizens and immigrants residents to verify their immigration status or lose their Obamacare health insurance.

Federal health officials overseeing the Affordable Care Act (ACA), popularly known as Obamacare, sent out notices to 310,000 enrollees, threatening them with loss of coverage if they do not send in proper immigration forms or proof of citizenship documentation.

These individuals must clear any discrepancies by Sept. 5 or they will  risk losing coverage by Sept. 30. The letters say in large bold print, “Act by September 5, 2014 or Your Marketplace Health Insurance May End.”

Back in August the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services, which runs Obamacare, said in a statement, “today, we sent out letters to the approximately 310,000 consumers with citizenship or immigration data matching errors who have not responded asking them to submit their documentation. These notices remind them that in order to keep their coverage they have to submit the outstanding documents by September 5th. If they do not, their Marketplace coverage will end by September 30th.”

According to the “Washington Post”, these steps are an effort by the administration to ensure, that consumers who have such health plans are entitled to the coverage and the federal tax credits that help most of them pay for it, all before the second insurance sign-up period through HealthCare.gov begins in the fall.

This action will affect only people with lingering eligibility issues involving their citizenship or immigration status,
