Highpoint Virtual Academy of Michigan Begins Inaugural School Year

— New tuition-free online public school for K-8 students celebrates
first day of school —

MESICK, Mich.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Highpoint
Virtual Academy of Michigan
(HVAM), a tuition-free, online
public school currently offering grades K-8, welcomes students for its
inaugural school year, which begins on September 6, 2016. HVAM,
authorized by Mesick Consolidated Schools, plans to add one additional
grade per year to eventually serve students through 12th grade. The
school offers a challenging academic program focused on individual
learning needs, with a focus on college preparation.

“In the online education model, a teacher is able to focus much more on
instruction and individual attention because the distractions that arise
in a physical classroom are removed from the equation,” said Mary
Moorman, Head of School at Highpoint Virtual Academy of Michigan. “Our
program is for students who are serious about learning and getting the
most out of their education. That’s why we’re going to be offering
opportunities for our future high school students to gain college course
experience and technical skills.”

As part of its focus on college preparation, HVAM is developing an
Early/Middle College Program to offer to high school students in the
future. The program will enable high schoolers to earn an associate’s
degree, a technical certification, or up to 60 transferable college
credits.

Students who enroll at HVAM receive a personalized education experience,
designed to let them find the learning style that works best for them.
HVAM provides courses in language arts/English, math, science, history,
world languages, art and music. Students use web-based lessons and
hands-on instructional materials that are shipped to their home.

All HVAM students are supported by state-certified teachers, who lead
live, interactive online classes that can be reviewed again as a
recorded session. Teachers are also available to students and their
Learning Coaches – typically the parent or guardian – via email, phone
and one-on-one online instruction. HVAM teachers will strive to form a
partnership with Learning Coaches so that students’ challenges and
achievements can be more closely addressed.

Enrollment is still open for the 2016-2017 school year at Highpoint
Virtual Academy of Michigan. The school will host events in communities
around the state, as well as online information sessions to help parents
and children learn more about the program. For more information on the
school, visit http://hvam.k12.com/.
