The surprise announcement came early Monday morning: “Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that the Duchess of Cambridge is expecting their second child,” officials wrote in a statement.

“The Queen and members of both families are delighted with the news.”

It was no secret that after the former Kate Middleton gave birth to Prince George, the couple wanted another child, but the way they found out was definitely a big surprise. This baby will become the fourth in line to the throne, and push Prince Harry to fifth.

NBC News reports the Duchess is suffering from acute morning sickness and is being treated by doctors at Kensington Palace.

Expecting mothers who undergo this condition called hyperemesis gravidarum, typically might require extra hydration, medication and special nutrition.

The condition also put a bump in the road, preventing her from attending a planned visit to Oxford University on Monday.

Prince George was born on July 22, 2013 to the kind of media attention and fanfare only the Royal Family of England can attract.

“The Telegraph” reports that the pregnancy puts in doubt whether Middleton will be able to carry out a solo overseas tour that was slated to kick off in Malta later in September.

The royal couple has been married since 2011.
