“And the GRAMMY for Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album goes to…Calle 13!”

It’s no shocker that Calle 13 managed to take home the GRAMMY during Sunday night’s event. After all, they’re fathers to over 20 golden phonograms –between Latin GRAMMYs and GRAMMYs.

“Multiviral” is Calle 13’s fifth studio album and marks the band’s debut release via their new independent label, El Abismo after parting ways with Sony Music. It’s also been kicking ass since its release in March 2014.

It’s a given that both the Latin Recording and Recording Academy are suckers for the hard work and creativity that Calle 13 puts in their music.

We are suckers too. And that’s why we’ve put together five reasons the urban duo deserved that win.

1) Residente Rene Perez has stated that the lyrics in the album  are more existential. “Suddenly, I’ve started to be more aware, or worried, about living and dying. I thought, maybe I can do something bigger than politics”

2) And he did, with the magical single “Respirar el Momento.” A track that took them a long time to make but in a couple of minutes sums up the meaning of life.

3) “Multiviral” is also home to fresh and inspirational singles, including the romantic record “Ojos Color Sol” with Silvio Rodriguez. Not to mention, the video which features Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal.

4) This album was promoted not by traditional advertising but by word of mouth, virally.

Calle 13 has 5 albums.

5) Because even though most parts of the world don’t play their music on the radio or promote their talent, Calle 13 still manages to always win big at the GRAMMYs. That deserves a toast!
